Today was a lot of fun when it came to attaching the Jake sculpture to the wooden base. I got to go out to Canadian Tire and pick up some small wood screws, tiny enough to attach the sculpture to base and be where Jake's feet would be.
I painted it with a base coat, and then added the colors. I am really pleased with how it all turned out! I am quite impressed acutally. I really most espeiclaly love the dimensionality of the peice and that there are clear layers going on throughout, from jakes fur, to his shirt, and his cape. I especially loved working on the mane. all those little hair end pieces really bring it to life. From the profile it looks incredible! I am really quite impressed with it.

For the eyes i added on a few layers of gloss varnish. but as i have seen in other sculptures I really would like to look into getting one of those resin UV light things. Its something you add, and then flash with some sort of light to make it glossy liquid hard, used for the eyes. I'll look into that for my next sculpture project as this could come in handy! Next up i plan on doing the finishing touches with the paint, and then giving the base a nice wood varnish to darken it up a bit. Should look pretty good.
Also I started to realize more and more that i can make even bigger sculptures now. All i need to do is well... I could make the armature out of wood, a basic armature. Or i can continue with wire. I could make a template, draw it on the wood piece and then jig saw cut it. I could then screw it all together. I am thinking here of my next sculpture which will be of Jake in the side car and it will be on a much bigger wooden base, so that means bigger sculpture. I am considering making the armature out of wood, and adding in wires for finer details....
Stay tuned...
