Moving Back Home

I just moved from Oakville, back to my hometown, Yellowknife, and its been so cold outside that I re-realize why I prefer living else where during the winter. To tell the truth, I miss my girlfriend, Roberta, my friends and the warmer weather. But I feel in my bones that i am on the right path, and even more good things are coming.

Today i set up my room a bit and posted up onto the walls many inspiring photos of theme sculpture work that i've seen from Dan Sawatzkys workshop and other places. These kind of behind the scene photos really inspire me and get me into that mode of ''i'm going to be doing this kind of thing.'' Its alot to soak in, and i try not to push myself too much or expect from myself too much too soon. I've got several ideas to start.

It was quite the day, as I got up to something rather unexpected but equally exciting and fun. I was looking at the cover of my picture book, Bear and Ivory, and was wanting to make a sign for it so badly and see those characters come to life and into form, so much so, that i decieded to quite literally use the hardcover of the book and sculpt the characters off of it. I will inlcudfe a photo to give you an idea. I added several layers of cardboard and glued it firm to the book cover. ''This'', i thought to myself, is very similiar to what Dan Sawatzky would do with his precision board (HDU), laminating several layers and utilizing a layer or two as the base//armature for applying sculpting apoxie/clay.

''Wow!'' i thought to myself, ''this is great practice and start!'' and its so cool to sculpt Ivory, the bird and Bear off of the cover.

I will let the clay harden and dry, then tomorrow i will plan on painting it. It should look pretty good with its proper color set in. Now i can say my characters and creations are quite literally ''coming off the page.'' xD
