Lights, Clay, Action!

I have a few exciting new updates, as I have been working on the Superdog Jake car sculpture. This past thursday I managed to cut some holes in the front wood to attach the LED lights. This project is really coming to life, and I seem to make cool little additions along the way.

For the lights I ran to the Dollar store and picked up some basic string lights. I then tied two independent bunches of them together one bunch for each headlight. I then stuck them in and hot glued them in place. They turn on with a single toggle of the switch.

After that I got to the more fun part: applying the clay! This is the part where all the hard work in making the armature is rewarded immensly and the project begins to come alive! Sculpting Jake's fur took a little getting used to but i feel that I managed fairly well. As i applied the clay, I dipped my fingers in a container of water to help the clay mold itself easier over the armarture.

I tackled the face and goggles, and I must say I am pretty satistified with how it turned out. It is a very meditative process stretching the clay and applying it. I often find myself completely zoning out into another dimension, perhaps one in which Jake is flying around in this cool little car. His own batmobile of sorts.

The windshield you see here is from a salvaged visor from an old helmet and jigsawed into shape. It adds a very realistic feel to the whole piece with its glare! I am one happy guy with this so far! Next up, I will check over any areas for last rivisions, then let this clay harden before painting it!

Stay tuned....
