Carving the Walrus

Oh boy! Today was a really awesome day in the workshop. For the Superdog Jake sculpture I got to cut some more wood pieces to make up the armature for the sidecar. That took a little while.

As for the Pearlman sign, I got to work applying a few layers of tinfoil around the metal wired snout area to bulken it up before getting to the more exciting part: applying the clay!

I really enjoyed putting the clay onto the armature of the walrus. Oh man, I got so into the zone, I had my headphones on, was just enjoying the silence and focusing so conciously on carving. I am really grateful for what i get to do and what I am choosing to do. Getting to see these projects go from the design to the fabrication phase and then towards the final stages is just the most exciting and magical thing ever!

I struggled with the eyes the most but I think i managed with them fairly well. I will have more experience next up anyways so I am not aiming for perfect. There will be more then enough projects to go round and grow from.

What's next for the pearlman sign is, well, I will wait for the glue to dry for the metal feather on the hat, and then I will begin to apply clay to the hat and the rest of the sign. I am going for a metal rim look with bolts on the side, and the sign portion to look like wood.

Looking forward to what's next up, so stay tuned...
